November 2009: Richard & Linda Marshall - Jazz
This months certificate of merit has been awarded to Jazz's (our very own lovable Tasmanian Devil) owners, Richard and Linda Marshall. When they first rescued Jazz about eight months ago she was fiesty, tenacious, constantly in top gear and typically unable to follow any commands what-so-ever!
Collectively they have worked incredibly hard to get Jazz under control and she is now well on the way to becoming the perfect companion.
Well done & thank you!

September 2009: Carl Bakes - Suzie
This months certificate of merit has been awarded to Carl who's commitment to Suzie (an 18 month Newfoundland) is outstanding!
Since Carl first brought Suzie to our Sunday Socialisation & Behaviour class and then on to our Tuesday class, where her obedience has gone from strength to strength. All this was achieved while nursing a broken ankle and awaiting the imminent arrival of his baby boy, who is now our youngest spectator!
Well done & congratulations!

July 2009: Dan & Corinne Lay - Poppy
Congratulations to Poppy who is owned by Dan & Corinne Lay. This certificate of merit has been awarded not simply to acknowledge the commitment in Poppy's training to an advanced level but especially to commend them on successfully eradicating a bad habit and replacing it with a good one!
To succeed at such a task is challenging and requires a considerable amount of perseverance and determination.
Well done!

June 2009: Gary Fitzgerald & Jem
Congratulations to Jem who is owned by Gary Fitzgerald. Jem is a young female Dobermann rescued by Gary earlier this year. Although Jem has a wonderful temperament, she is still a lively adolescent adjusting to life with her new family. Gary’s learning curve has been steep but he is very determined at ensuring Jem matures into a socialable, well balance and happy companion.
We are mostly impressed by Gary’s attitude to Jem’s education! He acknowledges the importance of Jem’s training as a vital tool towards building a solid bond and enhancing their relationship. He has worked 24/7 on the fundamentals – socialisation and behaviour - and is now working on more advanced formal training.
Well done Gary!

April 2009: The Howard Family & Sunny
Congratulations to Sunny, who is owned by the Howard Family! When Sunny first came to us for training he was very wilful. He is a typical Labrador puppy from working blood lines and despite early efforts to teach Sunny good manners and social skills, he had better ideas about how to spend his surplus energy. His family was doing a very good job on his obedience training; he could sit, go down and even had a super recall but they really wanted to learn how to constructively direct his strong wilful nature so that he could be enjoyed by all the family!
In just a few weeks Sunny is like a completely different dog! He is happy, playful, respectful and (for a puppy) is obedient most of the time. This is because the whole family has been consistent and determined with him about their expectations. Committment to maintaining his currenly level of training will ensure that Sunny grows into a happy, enjoyable companion.
Well done!
March 2009: Rhonda Hicks & Bogan
Congratulations to Bogan, who is owned by Rhonda Hicks! Bogan is a 4.5 year old male Dalmatian who was rescued by his new family at the beginning of 2009. They were later informed that Bogan is deaf! When his new family approached us about Bogan's training they were very keen to understand how they could help him overcome some undesirable behaviours, increase his confidence and create clear methods communications.
What impressed us most is their sheer determination and commitment to Bogan! They have substantially increased his confidence and focus and the bond is clearly growing very strong. Bogan is quickly becoming the perfect companion!
Well done Rhonda!
K9 MATTERS FUN DAY
On Sunday the 10th August 2008, hundreds of dogs descended on a quite corner of Hampshire to take part in the K9 Matters Fun Day, which was organised to raise funds for man’s best friend.
The Dobermann Rehoming Association (DRA) Dogs in Need and the Guildford & District Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue were local charities that benefited from the event. The funds raised will contribute towards the escalating daily cost of Kennelling, Food and Veterinary care.
The event was the first to be organised by K9 Matters who estimated 75 to 150 programmes would be sufficient. However, these were sold within the first couple of hours! The final figure was more like 450 people and about 150 dogs! As the day was so successful people have already enquired as to whether there will be another one next year!
Despite the bad forecast, the rain held off, although the wind did launch a few gazebos into the air! There were various novelty classes like best puppy, best rescue and best young handler (judged by Hart District Council’s Dog Warden Lisa Jessop). Other events included have-a-go agility, ball bingo and massive retrieve.
The final results were outstanding; the funds raised were phenomenal – a total £900 split equally between the three charities and the NTIPDU trophy for Best in Show went to Christina Trinkler and her four month old Tibetan terrier Eddie below.

The biggest stars of course were the people that unselfishly provided a considerable amount of personal time and effort into making the K9 Matters Fun Day a success! We also extend a big thank you to all the individuals and organisations that contributed to the event, of which there are too many to name individually.
